Continued increase in air travel

Autumn is traditionally the busiest travel season. Between 65,000 and 75,000 passengers are currently taking off and landing at BER Airport every day – and on peak days, like Fridays and Sundays, there are around 80,000 passengers. That is as many passengers as during the last summer holidays.

For this reason, the airport company continues to recommend that all passengers arrive at their respective terminal two-and-a-half hours before departure.

Passengers will find service information and more travel information on Twitter and via the Berlin Airport App.

The most important tips for departing & arriving passengers

Check-in and baggage:

  • Online: We advise our passengers to check-in online at home if their airlines offer this. Please check with your airline about this.
  • At machines: Passengers at BER can check in themselves and their baggage independently. Several airlines offer this service, either for baggage drop-off only or additionally for printing their boarding pass. It is possible to use the machines from 3:30 am on the respective day of departure.
  • Make a BER Runway reservation: Passengers can reserve a free time slot for BER Runway (extra access to the security controls) on the website and in the app up to 72 before departure.
  • The evening before: Lufthansa and Eurowings provide the option of checking in the evening before.  easyJet passengers can use the bag drop the evening beforehand and check in their baggage for flights the next morning after checking in online.
  • At the counter: You are also welcome to check in at the counter. Please have travel documents, proof of vaccination, recovery or test (“3G”), if applicable, and entry documents for the respective destination country ready.
  • After checking in at the terminal: Please go directly to security control. The control points with the shortest waiting times are shown on the display panels, as well as in the app and on the airport’s website.

Preparing for security control:

  • At home: When packing, be aware of the guidelines of the Federal Police and airlines regarding prohibited and dangerous items.
  • Liquids: Please place liquids in a transparent, resealable, 1-litre bag according to regulations. A maximum of 10 x 100 ml and only one bag per passenger is allowed.
  • Electronic devices: Powerbanks and e-cigarettes are only allowed in cabin baggage.
  • Repacking in the terminal: There are preparation tables in front of the security controls in Terminal 1 where passengers can check their cabin baggage once again. Electronic devices, such as laptops and tablets, and any liquid bags must be removed from cabin baggage and presented separately at the control point.
  • Without checked baggage: Passengers with boarding passes and only cabin baggage can go directly to security control.

Arrival at BER:

  • Baggage claim: The baggage conveyor belt for your flight is displayed on the monitors in the baggage claim hall as well as on the website and in the app.
  • Bulky and special baggage: There is a separate bulky baggage claim in Terminal 1, which is located in the middle of the baggage claim hall, and in Terminal 2 behind baggage conveyor belt C3.
  • Baggage tracing: The point of contact for damaged or lost baggage, items lost on the aircraft or on the apron bus, is the baggage service, which has several counters in the baggage claim hall.
