A musical start

to the Christmas travel season

Published: 14 December 2023, 15:00

There will be a festive atmosphere...

...for people from Berlin and Brandenburg travelling from BER over the next few days. The airport is already decorated for Christmas. 3,500 LED lights light up the eight-metre-high Nordmann fir tree on Willy-Brandt-Platz. A second decorated eight-metre fir tree stands in front of the southern entrance to the terminal.

Christmassy programme

There will be music accompanying departing and arriving passengers in the days leading up to Christmas. Several performances in the public area and behind security control invite you to listen, enjoy and sing along.

  • On 15 December at 5.30 pm, the Eichwalde Community Choir’s children and youth choir will perform in Terminal 1. There is a long-standing partnership between association and the airport company.
  • One week later, on 22 December at 2 pm, US soul and jazz singer Jocelyn B. Smith will perform together with a choir in the public area. The native New Yorker, who has lived and worked in Berlin for many years, has already given more than 3,000 live concerts and worked with many artists from all over the world. She runs the integrative “Different Voices of Berlin” choir on a voluntary basis and has received several awards for her exceptional social commitment, including the Federal Cross of Merit. With the message “Every voice is welcome”, she also wants to set an example for humanity, diversity and openness at BER.
  • Both performances will take place in the public area of Terminal 1 and can therefore be experienced not only by passengers, but also anyone interested without a plane ticket.

Passengers with a plane ticket can look forward to two more performances in the Terminal 1’s Market Place.

  • On 22 December at 5 pm, artist Kirk Smith will perform with gospel singers.
  • One day later, on 23 December 2023 at 5 pm, saxophonist Gaëtan Fournet-Fayas will play.

There are also elves out and about in the security area, handing out vouchers for numerous shops and cafés. If you want, you can have your photo taken at the elf walls and send a Christmassy selfie using #BERXmas.
