Book a time slot for access to security control at BER free of charge. BER Runway allows you to go directly to security control 4 in Terminal 1 using an extra entrance where your booking and boarding card are checked, therefore avoiding long waiting times. 

Bookings are possible from seven days before your flight. You will need your flight number and must enter your name and email address.  We recommend that you book a time slot at least two hours before departure. The last time slots that can be booked are offered one hour before departure for Schengen flights and flights from Terminal 1 and 1.5 hours before departure for non-Schengen flights and flights from Terminal 2. Please make sure that you arrive at the airport early enough to allow sufficient time to check-in yourself and, if applicable, your baggage before making your way to BER Runway. 

The time slots are 15 minutes, access is possible from 5 minutes before the start of the time slot until 5 minutes following the end of the time slot. You can continue to use all general entrances to security control even if you have a booking for BER Runway or outside the booked time slot.

Questions and answers

BER Runway gives you access to security control 4 in Terminal 1 with your valid boarding pass. You must book a time slot in advance on our website, our BER App or the smartdepart-App. The time slots are 15 minutes, access is possible from 5 minutes before the start of the time slot until 5 minutes following the end of the time slot.

There is currently an entrance to BER Runway in Terminal 1 at security control area 4. 

This offer can generally be used to by all passengers.

  • Passengers departing from Terminal 2 will be offered the last time slot 1.5 hours before departure due to longer distances.
  • Passengers departing from Terminal 1 can use the last time slots up to one hour before departure. Please take into account the time needed in advance for check-in and baggage drop-off.
  • Come with your boarding card and carry-on baggage to the BER Runway entrance at security control 4 in Terminal 1.
  • Make sure that the correct data is entered when booking (date, flight number, name) so that we can enable automatic access.

You can book a time slot within which you can use the BER Runway entrance to security control 4 via the BER Website, our BER App or the smartdepart app. We expect the waiting time to the start of the security control to be around 5 to 10 minutes thanks to the provision of separate entrances. At the airport, please proceed to security control 4 within the booked time slot. Please keep these your boarding pass ready for scanning. Make sure that the correct data is entered when booking (date, flight number, name) so that we can enable automatic access..

Time slots can be booked from 7 days before departure. If you want to book BER Runway via the smartdepart app, you will also need your boarding pass. Please note that the range of time slots is limited and may be fully booked at the requested time. You can then use the general entrances to security control. Bookings are possible up to one hour before departure for Schengen flights and flights from Terminal 1 and 1.5 hours for non-Schengen flights and flights from Terminal 2.

You will be asked for your flight number and your first and last name during the booking process. Please have this information ready.  

Yes – you will be asked for your name during the booking process. Please enter your name as it appears on your boarding pass. This is used to verify your access via the boarding pass control system. Children must also enter their full name as shown on the boarding pass.

Time slots are available every day between 4 am and 8.30 pm. Please use the general entrances to the security controls for earlier or later flights.

Yes. Available time slots are suggested up to one hour (Schengen and Terminal 1 departures) or 1.5 hours (non-Schengen and Terminal 2 departures) before departure of the flight in question. Please take into account the time needed in advance for check-in and baggage drop-off, if necessary. Admission is only possible with a valid boarding pass, which is why you cannot go through the BER Runway entrances earlier than six hours before your departure time.

We recommend that you book a time slot at least 2 hours before departure. Please come to the BER Runway entrance on time at the booked time slot. Otherwise, you cannot be guaranteed BER Runway access. General access to security control is still possible.

There are only a limited number of time slots. If you do not see a suitable time, it means that it has already been booked by other passengers and is no longer available.

You will find the link to manage, change or cancel your booking in the BER Runway booking confirmation. We ask you to cancel time slots that you do not need so that they can be made available again to other passengers.

No, you only need to enter your name and email address. You will receive your booking confirmation by email directly from the airport company when you book via the BER website or BER app. If you make a booking via the smartdepart app, you must create a user account and will receive your email from smartdepart.

Yes, you can book a time slot for up to five people in one go. Please book time slots only for yourself and, if applicable, people travelling with you.

You can book time slots for BER Runway for all of your upcoming flights in the next seven days. These are available every day between 4 am and 8.30 pm.

Yes, you do not have to pay anything.

We want to offer our passengers the best possible service.  High usage of BER Runway can further improve processes at BER. Passengers benefit from shorter waiting times since it is easier to predict when passengers will arrive and avoid high numbers at security controls.

If you are flying from Terminal 2, we currently recommend that you use the security controls directly in Terminal 2 (without a BER Runway booking) due to the shorter distances. It is also possible to go from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 after the security control if you would like to book access to BER Runway. The last bookable time slot is offered up to 1.5 hours before departure due to the longer distances for departures from T2.  Please then note the time required to get to your gate. Please note that if you are flying with an airline from T2, you can only check-in your baggage at Terminal 2.

No. The BER Runway product and your valid boarding pass gives you access to the airport security control at BER via the BER Runway entrance at the time slot you have booked. The airport guarantees this access. Our current estimates show that the average waiting time from accessing the BER Runway entrance to the start of the security control is approx. 5 to 10 minutes. Please note that delays may occur. For this reason, we recommend that you book a time slot around two hours before your departure.

You can only use the Priority Lane before the security control if your airline offers you access. This status does not require actively booking a time slot, you can simply go to the Priority Lane; no time slot is guaranteed. BER Runway is open to all passengers but requires prior booking.

You only have access to BER Runway within the booked time slot. If you need to leave the security area for urgent reasons and need to use security control again, you can make a new booking (if there are slots still available) or use the general security controls.

Yes, the booking on the boarding pass is checked automatically in the background by the boarding pass control system. You do not need to have a new boarding pass issued.
