The most important tips for passenger

Check-in and baggage

  • Online/Check-in: We advise our passengers to check-in online at home if their airlines offer this. Please check with your airline about this.

Airlines at BER

  • Self Check-in: At BER, passengers can check in and check their baggage themselves. Several airlines offer this service.

Is my airline on board?

  • The evening before: Some airlines offer passengers an evening-before check-in or bag drop for departures the following day. Lufthansa passengers can check in up to 23 hours before departure. For Eurowings flights, this applies to departures until 12 a.m. the following day. easyJet offers a bag drop for departures until 9:30 a.m. the following day.

Check in or drop off your baggage the evening before.

  • At the check-in counter: You are also welcome to check in at the counter. You will find the respective counter number on the departure boards. Please have your travel documents and, if applicable, entry documents for the respective country of destination ready. The check-in area is located in Terminal 1 on level E1 and in Terminal 2 on level E0. If you are travelling with large baggage, you must check it in at one of the large baggage counters.
  • After checking in at the terminal: Please go directly to the security control. The control areas with the shortest waiting times are displayed on site on the display boards as well as in the app and on the website. Access to BER Runway is located in the centre of Terminal 1 at control area 4.

Preparing for the security control

  • BER Runway: Reserving a time slot for access to the security check saves waiting time. The service is free of charge and available from seven days before departure. Travellers who have booked a time slot simply go to the boarding pass control with their boarding pass. This recognises if a reservation has been made.

  • Pack your suitcase properly: When packing your suitcase, there are a number of things to consider. Therefore, inform yourself in good time before you start your journey.

  • Access to the security control for families: If you have not reserved a time slot for BER Runway, you will find family entrances in Terminal 1, in front of control areas 1 and 5.
  • Repacking in the terminal: There are preparation tables in front of the security controls in Terminal 1’s check-in hall where passengers can check their cabin baggage once again. Electronic devices, such as laptops and tablets, and any liquid bags must be removed from cabin baggage and presented separately at the control point.
  • Without checked baggage: assengers with boarding passes and only cabin baggage can go directly to security control.

Good to know

  • Identity documents: Find out about the identification documents you need before travelling. Your identity card may not be sufficient and you may need other documents.

Information on travel documents

  • EasyPass: If you already have a new-generation passport, you can use the automatic passport control. Third-country nationals aged 12 and over with an electronic passport and a German residence title can also use EasyPASS and thus pass border controls more quickly. This does not apply to children’s passports.

Information on EasyPass

  • Buggies and wheelchairs: Prams and buggies that exceed 25 cm in height when folded must be checked in at the restricted baggage counters in the terminals. At 21 stations in Terminals 1 and 2 you can borrow a buggy or wheelchair free of charge (while stocks last) and return it to another station. Travellers can pass through security with a wheelchair or pushchair. If you need more help with your flight, book the free Mobility Service with your airline or tour operator.
  • Gastronomy: After the security control you will find numerous restaurants and gastronomic offers.
