Welcome to Kittilä – the heart of Finnish Lapland! If you want to experience a real winter with snow-covered forests, the Northern Lights and reindeer, you should head for the far north. In northern Finland, around 150 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, lies the small town of Kittilä. Just a few kilometres from Kittilä Airport is the winter sports resort of Levi – Finland's largest ski area.
Finnish Lapland is characterised by mountain landscapes, endless forests and clear lakes – a magical natural environment that offers peace and time to breathe. If you're feeling adventurous, you can explore the snow-covered wilderness of Lapland on guided reindeer or husky tours. When the sky is clear during the long, cold winter months, you can watch the dancing northern lights – an unforgettable natural spectacle.
A trip to Finnish Lapland offers much more than just snow, northern lights and reindeer sleigh rides. The region is characterised by lively customs and a deep connection between the locals and nature. Many customs originate from the culture of the indigenous Sami people, who have lived in the far north for centuries and still live according to the rhythm of nature today. Central elements of their lives are reindeer herding, traditional clothing and handicrafts, and the ancient form of singing known as joik. The artistic duodji crafts made from wood, reindeer bone and leather also play an important role. The old wooden churches in the middle of the Nordic landscape are also interesting and worth seeing. They once served not only as places of worship but also as meeting places, especially during the long winter months.
