New long-haul aircraft at BER

A first for BER: On Sunday 19 July, Air Canada’s Airbus A321 XLR (Extra Long Range) landed at BER from Montréal for the first time. This marks the first time the new long-haul narrow-body aircraft has been used in scheduled service on a long-haul route to Germany.  

The deployment of this aircraft demonstrates how bespoke direct routes can be operated economically and efficiently, even away from traditional hubs. The new aircraft type also has a better environmental footprint than older models in terms of fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions and noise pollution.

In-flight comfort

With the A321 XLR, Air Canada is introducing its new cabin and design concept. It offers travellers a comfortable experience on board. Amenities for all passengers include power sockets at every seat, high-speed Wi-Fi and modern in-flight entertainment systems with larger screens in front of every seat, as well as Bluetooth connectivity for personal headphones.

Air Canada’s Airbus A321 XLR can accommodate a total of 182 passengers, 14 of whom travel in Business Class (Signature Class) and 168 in Economy Class. The Signature Class seats can be reclined into a flat bed. Thanks to their layout, they offer Business Class passengers greater privacy, with a window seat and direct access to the aisle. In Economy Class, seats are arranged in the traditional layout.

The flight time from BER to Montréal is 8 hours and 40 minutes. The return journey takes an hour less. This summer, the route will be operated until 6 September. Flights for summer 2027 are already available to book. During the coming summer season, Air Canada will operate the route from early June to mid-October, up to four times a week.
