Due to the heavy snowfall forecast for large parts of Europe, flight operations may be subject to significant delays. We therefore ask all passengers to regularly check the status of their flight and to prepare for winter conditions when arriving and departing.

The onset of winter affects several airports, resulting in delayed departures, disrupted flight schedules and severe delays and cancellations for airlines. Safety is our top priority: during heavy snowfall, runways, taxiways and aprons at BER must be continuously cleared and de-iced. Aircraft must first be cleared of snow and ice, and then coated with a protective layer to prevent re-icing. This work is time-consuming, but urgently necessary for safe operation.

Over the last few days, the airport company and its partners have been working intensively to prepare for the heavy snowfall forecast for northern and eastern Europe. Extensive precautions have been taken: the tanks containing de-icing agents for the runways, taxiways and aircraft are well filled. All winter service vehicles are ready for use, including the modern winter service fleet belonging to the airport company and the 18 de-icing vehicles belonging to ground handling service provider Wisag. Regular updates on staff deployment for all operational services are ongoing.

BER employees are doing their utmost to minimise the impact of weather-related situations.
