Information for Passengers at BER

Welcome to BER: The Special Olympics World Games (SOWG), the largest inclusive sporting event in the world, is being hosted in Berlin until 25 June 2023. Thousands of athletes with mental and multiple disabilities compete with each other in 26 categories. The airport company supports this major sporting event as part of its cooperation to help athletes travel to and from BER with as little stress as possible.

On June 8th 2023 the Special Olympics torch known as the „Flame of Hope“ has arrived at BER Airport.

Temporary changes to the processes at BER

Travellers must be prepared for temporary changes in the processes at BER. In the period up to 27 June, there may be disruptions to travel to and from BER on individual days.

Therefore, on certain days public bus stops will be relocated or restrictions to the airport approach may be imposed at Terminal 1 for logistical reasons and to support the athletes.

Passengers can obtain information on arrival and departure at BER via Airport Info and the airport company's website, as well as via social media channels and the BER app.

Information on arrival and departure at BER

On 24, 25 and 27 June, there may be restrictions to airport approach level E1 (Departures). Travellers arriving by car will find a reduced number of short-term parking spaces available during this period. As an alternative, parking garages P3, P7 and P8 can be used. These offer up to 30 minutes of parking at short-term rates.

On 26 June, the airport approach level E1 (departure) will be closed to passenger traffic all day. Travellers are kindly requested to use public transport on this day. Passengers arriving by car are requested to use the parking garages P3, P7-P8.  They offer a separate short-term parking rate for 30 minutes

For 26 June, the main day of departure for the SOWG athletes, exceptionally no time slots will be bookable for BER Runway. On this day, security control 1 is reserved for the SOWG delegations. Travellers are kindly requested to be in the terminal 2.5 hours before departure and to check the displays in the terminal for possible waiting times. Additionally, passengers can also use the security control in Terminal 2 to all gates.

Air Defender NATO Exercise

From 12 to 23 June, the NATO military exercise "Air Defender 23" will take place from Monday to Friday. As a result, flights or operations may be delayed at all airports and therefore also at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). Passengers are kindly asked to regularly check the status of their flights. Passengers can obtain information on arrivals and departures at BER from their airline as well as from the airport company's website (www.berlin-airport.de) and the BER app.

Arrival at BER by Train

Due to construction work, rail services to and from BER will also be affected in June. Travellers are requested to inform themselves about driving options on vbb.de and here: Restrictions when travelling to / from the airport by train
