The Easter holidays rank among the most popular holiday times of the year. In total, BER is expecting 1,250,000 passengers from 11 April 2025 to 27 April 2025. Travellers will then also be able to use the first eight lanes with the new CT scanners at the security controls in area 5 of Terminal 1, where they will no longer need to unpack electronic devices and liquids. After the area has been converted, all control lanes in BER's Terminal 1 are fully operational for the holidays. Installing the new technology in the eight screening lanes in the northern area will start following the Easter holidays and will be completed by autumn. Terminal 2 is already fully equipped with the new technology.
The airport company generally recommends holidaymakers arrive at the respective terminal in good time before departure and follow their airline’s instructions in that respect. Passengers using digital services can better plan their stay at the airport:
Fast Bag Drop: It is most convenient for passengers to check in online via their airline’s app or website. Those flying with hand baggage only can go straight to the security control. The terminals have more than 120 self-check-in machines where travellers can print their baggage label and then check in their baggage themselves. 17 airlines offer this service. Fast Bag Drop
BER Runway: Passengers can reserve a time slot for access to security control free of charge from seven days before departure. The waiting time is then less than ten minutes. BER Runway
BER Biometrics: Services in Terminal 1 such as BER Runway, access to the BER Lounges and the Central Exit can be used contactlessly via facial recognition. Interested passengers need to download the SmartDepart app onto their smartphone, register, take a selfie and upload their boarding pass. BER Biometrics
EasyPass: Passengers who have a biometric passport or new German ID card can use the EasyPass automatic passport control system and, therefore, pass through border control more quickly when travelling to a non-Schengen country. This also applies to third-country nationals aged 12 and above who hold an electronic passport and German residence permit. It is not possible with children’s passports. EasyPass
Book a parking space: You can save money booking a parking space online in advance at parken.berlin-airport.de.
Valet Parking: Travellers can conveniently leave their car on the terminal driveway, directly in front of the check-in hall. The vehicle will be parked and, on request, cleaned and will be ready again on arrival at BER. Valet Parking
Shops and restaurants: At BER, travellers will find numerous stores and restaurants in both the public and security areas. The Rewe supermarket in the public area of Terminal 1 will also be open during the Easter holidays. Freshly baked goods are available directly opposite at Kamps; the bakery is open around the clock every day. Shops and restaurants
