No regular flights possible due to warning strikes

The trade union ver.di has called on employees of ground handling service providers and aviation security staff at Berlin Brandenburg Airport to take part in all-day warning strikes on Monday, 10 March. Due to the work stoppages, flight operations will unfortunately have to be suspended on this day. All regular departures and arrivals will be affected by the strikes and therefore cannot take place.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport recommends that affected passengers contact their airline or tour operator for information about rebooking options and alternative travel options.

The airport company has informed partners of the airport, such as airlines, ground handling service providers, security companies and local businesses, about the suspension of flight operations.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is expected to resume regular and scheduled airport operations on Tuesday, March 11.

To whom can passengers turn if their flight is cancelled?

The respective airline always decides whether to cancel a flight. If a flight that they have booked themselves is cancelled, passengers should contact their airline directly. If a flight is part of a package holiday, passengers should contact the tour operator.

In the event of a strike, airlines are obliged to offer passengers an alternative flight or an alternative means of transport, on domestic German routes if necessary also by rail or bus. Passengers can also withdraw from the contract and have the ticket price refunded.

What rights do travellers have with regard to package tours?

In the case of package holidays, the tour operator is obliged to arrange alternative transport. They are also responsible for any costs incurred as a result of a delayed arrival (e.g. meals and accommodation). If the delay is five hours or more, travellers are also entitled to a price reduction.
