Well-prepared for the autumn holidays

Published: 15 October 2024, 12:00

The autumn holidays are just around the corner: a total of more than 1.3 million passengers are expected at BER Airport between 18 October 2024 and 3 November 2024. This autumn, flights will be taking off for 133 destinations in 49 countries.

Once again, holiday resorts on the Mediterranean coast with plenty of guaranteed sunshine are particularly in demand, for example Spain, Turkey, Italy, France and Greece.

The airport company asks all travellers to take note of the construction work on the S-Bahn lines S9 and S45 and check vbb.dedaily for up-to-date information about specific travel options to BER.

In general, the airport company advises all travellers to use BER’s digital services. For example, several thousand slots are available every day for free reservation of security access at BER Runway. Since 1 July, BER Biometrics has been added for contactless use of services via facial recognition. Furthermore, various airlines offer Fast Bag Drop for baggage drop-off without waiting times at more than 120 machines in both terminals.

The most important travel tips for passengers

The airport company asks all passengers to prepare well for their trip and comply with the regulations for security checks. For example, only liquids in containers up to 100ml are still permitted in hand luggage in both terminals.

  • BER Runway: Reserving a time slot for access to the security control saves waiting time. The service is free of charge and can be booked from seven days before departure. Travellers who have booked a time slot simply need to go to boarding pass control 4 in Terminal 1 with their boarding pass. From there, travellers can reach any departure gate:

  • BER Biometrics: Since July of this year, various services have also been available for contactless use via facial recognition. Interested passengers need to download the SmartDepart app to their smartphone and register there. With a booked flight, they automatically receive a slot for BER Runway, which is valid from two hours before the selected time slot. Travellers can also use BER Biometrics to print their baggage label contactlessly at the designated machines or use their booked access to the Tegel Lounge contactlessly..

  • EasyPass: Passengers who hold a biometric passport or new German ID card can use the EasyPass automatic passport control and, therefore, pass through border control faster when departing for a non-EU country. This also applies to third country nationals aged 12 and up with an electronic passport and a German residence permit. It is not possible with children’s passports.
