For 15 years now, Hainan Airlines has been connecting the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region with the Chinese capital Beijing. The cooperation between our local airport location and the airline from the Middle Kingdom began in September 2008. The non-stop connection was launched from the then capital airport Berlin-Tegel and later continued from BER following the Covid-related interruption in August 2022.
In one-and-a-half decades, the direct connection between the tourism and economic centres has become a model of success. Almost 900,000 passengers have been carried on almost 4,500 flights between Berlin and Brandenburg in the heart of Europe and the Chinese mega metropolis, which is home to around 22 million people. In addition, more than 56,000 tonnes of cargo have been transported on the flights.
Beijing offers interested tourists a variety of attractions. The Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China are probably at the top of most tourists’ sightseeing lists. In addition to China’s classical buildings, the Olympic Park offers something for modern architecture enthusiasts. At its centre is the National Stadium, an open steel construction modelled on a bird’s nest. For animal lovers, Beijing Zoo is one of the largest in the world. The grounds are designed in the style of a Chinese garden and are home to the animal that represents China like no other: the giant panda. There is also impressive art at the National Museum, beautiful fabrics at the silk market and an adrenaline rush at the “Happy Valley” amusement park.
Those who have caught the travel bug can now fly non-stop from BER to Beijing four times a week. Hainan Airlines departs for Beijing every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 1:55 pm with an Airbus A330-300. Arrival in China is at 5 am the following day. Economy and business class tickets can be booked. The flight time is around nine-and-a-half hours. The flight in the opposite direction takes off at 2:20 am and arrives at BER at 6:25 am.
