Well prepared for the Easter holidays

Veröffentlicht: 24. März 2026, 10:00 Uhr

The Easter holidays are just around the corner — the first major travel season of the year: Between Friday, 27 March, and Sunday, 12 April 2026, approximately 1.3 million passengers are expected to travel through BER Airport. That is roughly the same number of people as during last year’s Easter holidays. On the first weekend of the holidays alone, from 27 to 29 March 2026, Berlin Brandenburg Airport expects around 200,000 passengers. The busiest travel day is expected to be Friday, 10 April, with 85,000 passengers.

Throughout the entire holiday period, around 8,800 aircraft will take off and land at BER. The most popular travel destinations are Spain, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Italy, and France. During the Easter holidays, around 70 airlines will fly from BER to 140 destinations in 52 countries.

Discount offers available in the BER App

During the Easter break, travellers at BER Airport can take advantage of discounts and special offers. Using the BER app, digital coupons can be redeemed at participating shops, restaurants, and service partners.

New bar in the check-in hall

The “Adler & Bär” bar is a new destination for travellers and visitors in the check-in hall of Terminal 1, located before security controls. The bar, situated directly beneath the striking red carpet, is open daily from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. In total, passengers at BER have more than 120 shops and dining options to choose from.

The most important travel tips

The airport company recommends that all holidaymakers check in online in advance and follow the instructions provided by their airline. Travellers who check in their baggage themselves at the Fast Bag Drop counters of participating airlines save a significant amount of time. Those who check the BER website or app in advance to learn about airport procedures and book parking spots online can start their holiday feeling more relaxed. Waiting times for security controls are displayed in the app, on the website, and on monitors directly on-site, allowing travellers to choose the most convenient area for them. All departure gates can be reached via any security checkpoint in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. The respective boarding gate typically closes 30 minutes before departure.

Self-Service Baggage Drop-Off

There are more than 120 self-service kiosks in BER’s two terminals where travellers can print their baggage tags and check in their baggage on their own. Twenty-one airlines offer this service at BER, which allows travellers to save a significant amount of time. Travellers flying with hand baggage only can go directly to the security controls.

Check-in & Boarding

Faster through security

Security control areas 1 and 5 in Terminal 1, as well as the security control area in Terminal 2, are equipped with modern CT scanners. Passengers no longer need to remove electronic devices and liquids from their hand baggage; liquids are permitted up to two liters per passenger. In the central security control areas 2 and 4 of Terminal 1, conventional technology is still in use. There, liquids may only be carried in hand baggage in containers with a volume of up to 100 ml each.

No power banks or e-cigarettes in checked baggage

It is important to observe the safety regulations for security controls when packing! Power banks and e-cigarettes are prohibited in checked baggage. These may only be carried in carry-on baggage, subject to the applicable quantity limits and transport regulations.

Passengers are allowed to carry only one standard lighter per person. This must be placed in their hand baggage. Lighters are not permitted in checked baggage.

EasyPass

Passengers who have a biometric passport or new German ID card can use the EasyPass automatic passport control and, therefore, pass through border control more quickly when travelling to a non-EU country. This also applies to third-country nationals aged 12 and above who hold an electronic passport and German residence permit. This is not possible with children’s passports.

European Entry/Exit-System (EES)

Since the end of last year, the Europe-wide Entry/Exit System (EES) is being gradually introduced. Non-EU nationals on a short-term stay in the European Union (up to 90 days within a 180-day period) must go through the new entry and exit procedure and should allow sufficient time for this. Upon entry, passengers can pre-register at self-service kiosks before proceeding to the border control officers at the counter.

BER Biometrics

At security controls 1 and 5 in Terminal 1 or at the entrance to the central exit, travellers can leave their boarding pass in their pocket and use contactless facial recognition if they have registered in advance for BER Biometrics via the smartdepart app.

Sunflower

For people with hidden disabilities, busy places like airports can be challenging. The Sunflower lanyard allows them to discreetly signal their disability. This enables staff and fellow travellers to respond with sensitivity and offer assistance, extra time, or patience as needed. This does not grant passengers priority.

BER Runway

Passengers can book a free time slot for BER Runway from seven days prior to departure. The service is located at security control 2 in Terminal 1, which is equipped with conventional screening technology.

Travel to and from the airport by bus and rail

FEX and RE20 services run several times an hour, with a journey time of approximately 23 minutes from Hauptbahnhof (main station) and around 14 minutes from Südkreuz to the airport. Eastern Berlin is connected to BER via the regional rail lines RB24 and RB32, serving the stations Hohenschönhausen, Lichtenberg and Ostkreuz. Two S-Bahn lines complement the rail services: the S9 runs to Spandau, while the S85 provides connections to Frohnau (Monday to Friday) and to Pankow at weekends, linking the north-east of Berlin. The airport company recommends checking the latest traffic and service information on the day of travel.

Book a car parking space in advance

Reserving a car parking space online in advance is advisable due to high demand. One week of parking is available from 71 euros. Travellers wishing to make savings are advised to secure the early-bird rate, available from 51 euros per week, by booking in advance. The Kiss & Fly offer enables parking in the short-stay car park directly in front of Terminal 1 for 17 euros instead of 23 euros during the first hour. The first ten minutes continue to be free of charge.
