By means of facial recognition, the digital service BER Traveller allows passengers to pass through certain processing points at the airport without having to show any documents – completely "hands-free". The project is initially being launched in a test phase at BER together with the Lufthansa Group and the technology partner FastID.
In the first step, the service will allow passengers to use the priority lane at security control. After that, it will be possible to use facial recognition at the self check-in machines and subsequently other touchpoints such as the boarding gate or lounge. If the test phase is successful, the function will be extended to other processing points at BER.
